The golden triangle region,  Thailand

This area was formerly known for it's fields of golden poppies harvested for the opium trade.  Currently the Thai government would like to stress that the golden may represent the future of tourism in the region, or of the still fertile land as it produces it's golden crop of rice.

Local children dresses up in traditional garb and singing about the photo you can take for only ten baht.

This picture is of the center of the famed golden triangle region.  The peninsula and the mountains beyond are in Myanmar.  The photograph was taken from the northernmost tip of Thailand.

And on the right side of the Mae Kong river is Laos.  The sandbar is claimed by no country, as it vanishes in the rainy season.
