One of the many checkpoints on the way.  We merely had to slow so that guards could see our tourist placard of a monthly pass on the dash.

Nearing Ha Long Bay we start to see the limestone cliffs that define Ha Long Bay, but there is a cement plant at the edge of this promontory, and eventually all these hills will be transformed into concrete.
