Porcelain
Slip Trail rose on grey earthenware, green and gold oxides, cone10 foodsafe
glaze.
This
is the first and last ceramic drum I've made. It needs to be skinned.
I made it in 1990 and I've been wondering what it might sound like for years.
Probably a dull thud. I took it and the conga beneath it to the barter
fair in Eastern Washington to see if I might somehow turn two broken drums into
1 working one. (The conga was a gift from Amheric Hall, but the barrel
seams were split.) I arranged with a drum maker from Moses Lake to trade
the broken conga's hardware for a skinning job on the ceramic one. He
grabbed the conga, but never managed to take my ceramic drum to be skinned.
Maybe I should try harder to bump into him again.
